Flashing protects the places where roofing meets another surface. Damage at these connections can allow water in even when nearby roofing looks intact.
A leak does not automatically mean you need a new roof. The condition of the surrounding material matters as much as the damaged spot.
An isolated defect with sound roofing around it may be suitable for a local repair. The repair needs to address the entry point and suit the existing roof material.

The method depends on the entry point and the roofing material. Damaged flashing, a failed seam, and broken shingles need different repairs. Covering the visible spot without establishing the cause may leave the underlying problem unresolved.
Roof work involves fall risks and details that are easy to miss. A roofer should assess the source and repair method. You can help by documenting the leak from a safe location and sharing any history of previous work.
Move belongings away and catch drips in a container if you can do so safely. Take photos and contact a roofer. Stay off a wet roof, and keep clear of water near electrical fittings or a sagging ceiling. Call to check availability.
Coverage depends on your policy and what caused the damage. A leak after rain does not by itself establish coverage. Photograph the damage and ask your insurer about the applicable terms, deductible, and claim requirements before assuming the repair is covered.
